Book near fine, yellow cloth boards, slight age darkening in gutters, else clean. Jacket very good with edgewear, spine darkening, small chips to head of spine and top of front cover. First performed at the St. James Theatre, 1 December 1958. The original cast included Juanita Hall, the first African-American to win a Tony for Best Supporting Actress; Patrick Adiarte, who went on to The King and I, The Brady Bunch, and MASH; Keye Luke, a founding member of SAG; Miyoshi Umeki, Oscar winner and Tony & Golden Globe nominee; Pat Suzuki, Grammy-nominated pop singer; and Jack Soo, best known for television work on shows such as Barney Miller and Hawaii Five-O. Several members of the cast were also in the 1961 film version of Flower Drum Song. Chin Yang Lee, 1915-2018, was born in China and emigrated to the United States in 1943. He is also the author of Lover's Point, China Saga, and The Days of the Tong Wars. Dust Jacket condition very good.
