Name and very slight gift inscription on the front free endpaper. The inside pages look unmarked. Black and white illustrations inside the book with a few color illustrations also.

A fascinating and insightful book by a man who spent many years in China whilst in the army.

Small booksellers sticker to front pastedown. In its original illustrated dust jacket (lightly bumped at edges, a little shelf wear visible). The author finds villagers just as forthcoming as the Boat People in volume I. The author spent his whole career in the Army, serving much of the time in China and, during the first world war, in Hong Kong and later Peking.
