xviii,222 pp. Octavo in original blue cloth with one illustration (map) and three folding maps (at end). Original dustwrapper. Minor wear to the wrapper otherwise an exceptional copy. Not in AB. This account of the Franklin expedition deals primarily with addressing the fortunes of the expedition. The author has included a brief… account of the search for the lost expedition and has attempted to present an outline of the principal events which, while not associated with the search itself, have occurred in connection with the ill-fated enterprise. The narrative has been compiled from both published and non-published sources. Very scarce as many copies were destroyed during the second world war when Metheun's warehouse was bombed. Still in my opinion the best single volume summary of Franklin and the Search for period.

Cloth. Etat : Very Good Indeed. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good Indeed. First edition. An important work on the disappearance of Sir John Franklin on his final Arctic Expedition. Very scarce in the dust wrapper and especially in such condition Admiral John Franklin was an English explorer and Royal Navy Officer, who disappeared…in 1847 attempting to chart the Northwest Passage in the Canadian Arctic. The ships" disappearance was a matter of great interest at the time, with the public supporting Franklin"s wife, Jane, in her search for her husband. Many other ships from both Britain and America went in search of Franklin and his crew, but in the end more men and ships were lost in trying to rescue them. Richard Cyriax has been interested in the Naval Northwest Passage Expedition since childhood, and became an authority on it and John Franklin during his life. This copy has a newspaper cutting loose in the pages, from the Times in May 1983. The article is about divers discovering the ship under an icecap. In the original publisher"s cloth binding, with the original price clipped dust wrapper. Externally smart. Very light marking to the spine. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Spotting to the fore edge. Offsetting to the front wrap, due to the newspaper clipping. Light edge wear to the dust wrapper, with minor markings to the rear flyleaf. Some discolouration and marking to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean. Occasional scattered spotting, mostly focused to the first and last few pages. Occasional light spots to pages due to spotting to the fore edge. Very Good Indeed. None (illustrateur). book.
