This report is dated 1889 and was the first report issued by the Secretary of Agriculture after the position was elevated to Secretary from what had previously been the Commissioner… position. The book is bound in black cloth with embossed framing on the covers and gilt titles on the spine. I was amazed to find that this report contained a series of full-color plates, some of which I believe are chromolithographs, typically those with tissue guards, although not all of the sectoral reports included color plates (please see the List of Illustrations). Condition: This book is in very good condition. In general, this copy of the Report is in better condition than most of the actual copies offered online, although there are some issues worth noting, none of which, however, affect the legibility of the Report. The hard covers are dust-dulled and slightly bumped at the corners and spine tips. There is some foxing to the endpapers but not generally throughout the book. The most series issues are the water stains that appear, boldly in some cases, on the special paper used to the color plates (again without really affecting their overall legibility). Both hinges are intact and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder. I say again; I doubt one can find a copy in such reasonable condition on the online marketplace.
