Fetherston of Saunders' Brigade, Mahone's Division of the Army of Northern Virginia, addressed the veterans of the 48th Pennsylvania Infantry. It is inscribed on the front wrapper by a veteran of the 48th.

Lightly colour-tinted softcovers, printed advertisements on front & back (minor chipping, edgewear to corners, minor creasing, large Hudson River map w/ 1 small closed tear at first fold), still a VG exemplar. Revised edition (additional ads dated 1869, larger folding map dated 1864, print advertisements), of this classic guide to the Hudson River Valley, without the Principal Railroad Routes to the Great West map called for in the table of contents, but not referred to in contemporary advertisements, which only refer to the Gaylord Watson Hudson River Guide as with "map." Originally issued by Humphrey Phelps in 1857, the guide continued to be updated, and maps revised by Gaylord Watson the successor to Humphrey Phelps. Worldcat locates 6 copies.

Wrappers are toned; some minor soiling to one page opening; vertical creases from the pamphlet having been folded; only traces of foxing. An interesting address delivered in Pennsylvania by a former Confederate officer who was present at the Crater. There are surprisingly few Confederates who were eyewitnesses at the Battle of the Crater that wrote about it. A reasonably nice copy of a surprisingly uncommon pamphlet, Featherston was captain of Company F, 9th Alabama Infantry. This address was delivered at the M. E. Church in Pottsville, PA on Wednesday, April 18, 1906. Two engravings include the frontispiece of the soldiers at the Petersburg mine and depiction of the monument to the 48th at Petersburg on the recto of the last leaf. Laid in, but not issued with the pamphlet is tri-fold reproduction of Michler's map of the entrenched lines in the immediate front of Petersburg, stamped: "O.D.S.S. Co, Petersburg, May 24, 1906." This copy presented to Mr. Charles A. Black of Petersburg, VA by the Survivors Association 48th Regt. Quite rare, with only Dornbusch citing it in the standard references. It is cited in Haynes, but a search of the Library of Virginia's catalog shows that it is no longer held by the Library. In fact, only the Huntington is reporting ownership according to OCLC.
