Bon Roger Martin Du Gard donne de précises indications à son architecte pour des modifications à apporter à un chambranle de porte de son château normand du Tertre, dans une lettre qu'il illustre d'un croquis. "(3e lettre dans les 24 heures. Comme au meilleur temps du chantier !). Suis d'accord pour la diminution du champ entre les panneaux et la cimaise. Les réduire à 0.12 ou même à 0.10 si nécessaire. Le chambranle de la porte est à fournir puisque ce n'est en réalité qu'un encadrement de l'embrasure [.]. Combien donc un chambranle avec une moulure de 0.08 ou 0.10, à votre idée, allant avec des moulures des panneaux, et que l'on couronnerait par qq. chose donnant cet aspect là, peut-être ? [Il dessine ledit chambranle]. Si on pouvait avoir là une baguette à oves rappelant les chapiteaux ? [.]". Roger Martin Du Gard acheta le château du Tertre (dont la construction remonte à la première moitié du XVIIe siècle) en 1925. Il y vécut jusqu'à sa mort en 1958 et y écrit la majeure partie de ses ouvrages. Romancier, auteur du roman-fleuve Les Thibault (1920-1940), prix Nobel de littérature (1937).
