Sophia Rosamond Praeger (1867-1954) was a sculptor and illustrator, born and eventually settled in Holywood, County Down, Northern Ireland. She attended the School of Art in Belfast under George Trobridge and Slade School of Fine Art under Alphonse Legros, winning a silver medal for drawing. She illustrated a series of children's books to help make a living, some written by her. Her most famous sculpture, The Philosopher, made her name when shown at RA in 1920. Praeger was an honorary member of RHA and a member and president of RUA. Also exhibited at Belfast Art Society and at Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. (from Art UK).
