Robert Freeman's photographs represent a unique record of the Beatles in the early years of their success. He traveled with them, as photographer and friend, in England, Sweden, France, America, Austria and the Bahamas, and was responsible for the design and photography of five of their album covers - 'With The Beatles', 'A Hard Day's Night', 'Beatles for Sale', 'Help!' and 'Rubber Soul' - and of John Lennon's two books, In His own Write and A Spaniard in the Works. He recorded some historic moments in the Beatles' careers - the first British tour, filming A Hard Day's Night and Help!, the first trip to America - and also the more intimate moments behind the scenes: the long recording sessions at Abbey Rood Studios, and the waiting to go on stage in the dingy dressing rooms of provincial theatres. The black and white photographs capture the humor, originality and innocence of the Beatles in the early Sixties when ever thing they did, said, and wore was headline news.
