Ajouter au panierFirst edition, Quarto, [4], 10, vi, 161, [1] pp. plus 3 folding chars and many other other full page charts. Publisher's red cloth with gilt spine lettering, printed ocher dust jacket (minor edge chipping and a tear along upper front joint of about 2 inches). Bookplate and stamp of William P. Rath. A very clean and attractive co…py.The author of this very academic book was a prominent Japanese Buddhist priest, scholar, and Tibetologist who played a key role in Japan-Tibet relations during the early 20th century. During his four-year sojourn (1912-1916) he became quite close to the 13th Dalai Lama who, after the abolition of the Qing dynasty and the establishment of the Republic of China in 1912, expelled the Chinese forces from the land and declared Tibet a sovereign nation. He is sometimes given credit in designing the the national flag (The Snow Lion flag) for Dalai Lama. After returning to Japan, Aoki wrote a book about his experiences in Tibet entitled Tibeto-Yuki (Record of Travels in Tibet) in 1920. He later worked for the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and served as an advisor to the Japanese army, primarily on matters related to inner Asia and Tibet.
