Ajouter au panierFirst edition of this study on Israeli society and the nature and principles of education, from primary schools to universities - with the ownership inscription of the Palestinian lawyer Gamal al-Sorani (1923-2008), representative of the Palestine Liberation Organization in Cairo, and later of the Arab League, and politician in…Gaza. An overview of the phases of the formation of Israel is followed by chapters on Israeli society - as a mixture of western, eastern, and Arab Jews - and on the goals of education, including the role of the military spirit and the Hebrew language. The authors examine the kinds of traditional and mixed schools in Israel, and the way in which they are managed, as well as the university system. Sections are devoted to Arabic language learning, army training, and kibbutz schools. A final chapter focuses on education in Palestine after the creation of Israel, and the problems of integrating "the demands of the modern age with Jewish heritage and religion". Octavo. Text in Arabic. Original pink and white wrappers, wire-stitched as issued. Extremities a bit rubbed, spine a little soiled and toned, couple of tiny marginal losses to rear wrapper, contents toned: a very good copy.
