Moderate browning to the cloth, with spotting and foxing to the rear cover. Some soiling and staining to the covers. Spine browned and worn looking. Extremities bumped and frayed. Text block cracked in several places, with scattered moderate foxing throughout.

The book has clean covers, rubbing to corners and spine ends, old ower name dated 1946 on blank FFEP otherwise no owner marks or writing on any pages, light tan 3cm smudge mark top edge text block (does not penetrate onto page faces), no foxing, solid binding, complete with all pages and plates. The original dust jacket has cello tape in several places along the edges, big chunk missing lower front corner, 2cm loss spine ends, loss along top rear edge, split along rear spine crease, rubbing spine crease edges. The book measures 258mm tall x 178mm, and has 93 pages of text and 80 pages of b/w photos, 3 maps, index. This book has some of the better examples of mountain photography for the period, including several spectacular images. The best photos are by Erwin Schneider, Peter Mullritter, and Fritz Bechtold. Though best known as a pioneering cartographer, Schneider was an outstanding photographer, many of his photos being artistic rather than merely documentary.
