Le personnage traité dans cet ouvrage, Jean-Baptiste Le Carpentier (1759-1829) était un député du département de la Manche, à la Convention. Lors des guerre de Vendée, il organisa en particulier la défense de Granville, assiégée par les Vendéens ("virée de Galerne"). A la Restauration, il fut arrêté comme régicide (il avait voté la mort du roi) et mourut dans la prison du Mont Saint-Michel. Langue: Français.
