First edition. 211 pages. The book is reasonably firmly bound in the publisher's oatmeal coloured cloth, lettered in dark brown to the spine, the cloth is slightly marked and toned, the extremities are bumped and the spine is cocked. The text block is slightly foxed, marked and age toned, with offsetting to the endpapers. The du…st jacket is the original and not price clipped, it is quite rubbed, marked and toned, with small chips and closed tears to the edges, some repaired to the reverse with thin paper archival tape. Broad was an aviator during the First World War, and in the inter-war years had a distinguished career as a test pilot and air racer. He was also involved in a love affair with fellow celebrity aviator, Beryl Markham, and named as co-respondent in her 1937 divorce case. This book, a blend of informal instruction and aeronautical anecdotes based upon Broad's own experiences, published at the beginning of WW2, is rare in commerce, particularly in the dust jacket.
