Ajouter au panierFirst edition. Illustrated with 12 colour plates, 14 black-and-white plates, 45 sketches, and one folding map of the Sudan. 8vo, original brick cloth, blind embossed lion on upper cover, gilt lettering on spine. xix, 170. A fine copy with only light or occasional foxing. IMPORTANT FIRST EDITION. A beautifully illustrated and informative guide to Sudanese game animals authored by the game warden to the Sudan government, this book advocates early wildlife conservation with its encouragements of alternatives to hunting: "A good photograph of a wild animal in its natural surroundings is of more interest than all the heads, and is often a sign of great patience, courage, and skill in bushcraft. Record heads mean nothing and are purely luck. Above all, don't kill just for the sake of killing!" [preface]. Features more humane hunting techniques and efficient skinning methods as well as descriptions of physical features and habits of a plethora of animals including the cheetah, the eland, the bushbuck, and larger game like the elephant and rhinoceros. A fine and scarce first edition of the game animals of the Sudan.
