Extensive gift notation on front free end paper. ; Author inscription on title page, inscribed to the subject of gift inscription. A tight solid book. DJ in protective Mylar sleeve, unclipped. ; B&W Illustrations; 175 pages; The remarkable story of Elizabeth Matheson stands out as a biography of one of Canada's extraordinary women and as a compelling picture of pioneer life on the prairies. One of Canada's first woman doctors, she was a determined, truly remarkable person, whose character and achievements, from her early days in Ontario and India to her death in 1958, are recounted by her daughter, author Ruth Matheson Buck. Here are her struggles as a woman and a mother of nine, her fight against discrimination in the medical profession, her tireless efforts to gain the trust of the Cree Indians at the Onion Lake Mission in Northern Saskatchewan, built up over the years, and her exhausting, life-saving journeys to the bleak outposts of her practice.
