Includes Webster's glorious colour fold out plan and several plates in Volume II. Volume I is half bound with marbled boards and page block. Boards are scuffed, with surface colour loss noted. Edges, corners and spine ends are bumped and rubbed, with tears at the spine head and upper edge of the front board. Page block is tanned and blemished. Previous owner's name penned to FEP. Age related colouring, marks and spots of foxing within. Binding is sound and pages are mainly clear. Volume II with blue boards and label attached to the spine. Boards are scuffed and marked. Edges, corners and spine ends are bumped and rubbed, with tears and chips at the spine ends. Page block is rough cut, tanned and blemished. Spots of foxing on the pastedowns, endpapers and quite a few of the pages within, however this has not affected the legibility, and binding is sound. LW. Used.

The first volume appears to be a second edition, with an expanded pagination compared to the 1836 issue of that volume, and includes a corrigenda page for both volumes at rear. Two volumes in full textured brown sheep, with gilt spines. Speckled edges; marbled endpapers. Light staining and a few small scuffs to covers; moderate varied foxing to text, mostly front and rear, and toward edges. Old owner's name to top margin of title-page in Vol. I. Some scattered foxing to plates in Volume II. The coloured fold-out is in near-fine condition. Otherwise clean, tight and unmarked. Very neat -- a sound and handsome set. PRESENTATION COPY FROM THE AUTHOR TO THE RECTOR OF EXETER "BEST REGARDS FROM THE AUTHOR". 4to, approximately 270 x 210 mm, 10½ x 8 inches, 27 engraved and lithographed plates and maps, 3 hand-coloured, 1 folding, plus folding table and 1 small text illustration, pages: vii, errata, [1]-303, [1], including explanation of the plates and index, bound in half calf, rebacked with gilt lettered green label, author's name in gilt, gilt rules and date to spine, blind decoration between raised bands, original marbled covers and brown endpapers, author's presentation inscription on blank endpaper, ink initials and house name C. J. W. Cowley House on pastedown. Slight rubbing and staining to covers, corners worn at tips, pale brown offset from plates to facing page, brown stain to lower margin of facing pages and the same to inner margin of facing pages due to something left in the book, not affecting text, a little pale foxing to endpapers and title page, vertical crease to end paper with signature, otherwise a very good clean copy. Buckland wrote the first full account of a fossil dinosaur, which he named Megalosaurus.
