An association copy, inscribed on the front free endpaper: "For Larry, with best regards, from Paul." The recipient was Laurence Hughes, longtime William Morrow president and CEO. Brooks was editor-in-chief of Houghton Mifflin, and in that capacity was a great champion of environmental writing. As Rachel Carson's editor, he in fact suggested the title Silent Spring, and this book is his biography of her and their work together. Brooks was also an accomplished naturalist writer himself and was the winner of the John Burroughs Medal for nature writing for Roadless Area.Near fine with a touch of rubbing to corners and a gentle bump to top front corner. In a very good jacket with some wear to corners, slight fraying to spine ends, and one small tear to rear upper flap fold edge. A nice association between influential men in publishing.
