Features a collection of Civil War recollections by assorted authors collected from various sources all concerning Columbus, Mississippi or nearby environs including some accounts of General Nathan Bedford Forrest's activities. Pages 29-32 feature a reprint of a 1907 article by Georgia P. Young (with the addition of three b/w photographs by Calvin Shanks) regarding the city's claim to founding Confederate Decoration Day or Memorial Day.

A magisterial work on the subject, organized around essays of narrower topics such as Revue, Opera, Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith; cumulatively, these are a virtual sweeping survey of theater costume without the plodding quality of a book announcing itself as a survey, and the caliber of writers and artists lend a spark to the text and artwork seldom encountered in a survey. 4to. 28 by 22.5 cm. xv, [1], 143 pp. 110 plates (frontis, then numbered I to CIX). Edges of spine rubbed,and small spots of worn through cloth along edges. Spine tips with tiny closed tearing. A hint of shake to the binding. Otherwise, a very clean copy. 46 of the plates are full color plates. Plates on a glossy paper stock, with accompanying tissue guards with crediting discreetly printed on verso, or facing side, of tissue guards. Also an abundance of illustrations scattered throughout the text.
