Incisione in acquatinta, mm 166x220 (immagine), splendido esemplare a grandi margini con timbrino dell'editore Artaria in basso a sinistra all'angolo. Bella veduta della citt? da sud, colta sulle rive del lago. Ottimo esemplare con lievi aloni marginali per lo pi? alle estremit? Nr.cat: Cod 8525.

Incisione in rame all'acquatinta, mm 257x875 (parte incisa) pi? ampi margini, firmata a sinistra "G. Gariboldi disegnÚ" e a destra "F. Citterio incise", stampata presso l'editore Luigi Ronchi. Splendida veduta panoramica colta dal centro del bacino di San Marco, che raffigura il profilo cittadino dalla Dogana a sinistra fino alla chiesa di San Zaccaria a destra. La veduta Ë animata da numerose imbarcazioni di vario tipo. Alcuni piccoli restauri e lievi aloni ma esemplare complessivamente ben conservato. Nr.cat: Cod 7788.

Acquatinta in rame, mm 373x490 (lastra). Bellissima e rara veduta raffigurante una animata scena portuale sulla punta della dogana con palazzo ducale, libreria Marciana e campanile di S. Marco in secondo piano; pubblicata da Ruspini e Sala in Contrada della Bella a Milano. Perfettamente conservata. Nr.cat: Cod 9536.

Incisione in acquatinta, mm 225x880, colorata díepoca a gouache. Splendida veduta del centro lago colta da un punto panoramico sopra Bellagio. Villa Balbianello a sinistra, Villa Carlotta al centro. Sulla costa orientale Ë evidente Varenna; Bellagio al centro sotto al promontorio che divide i due rami del lago. Perfetto stato di conservazione. Nr.cat: cod 1503.

Francesco Citterio s fantastic mid-19th century panorama of Lake Como.// This rare and stunning view of Lake Como was achieved by the printmaking technique known as aquatint, with contemporary hand color gouache. Aquatint is an intaglio process, in which a copperplate is exposed to acid through a layer of melted resin. Different areas of the plate are exposed to the acid in different ways, and in this way, a skilled printmaker can create a work comprised of areas of tone, rather than just lines. The process was especially popular in the first half of the 19th century, which saw the creation of aquatint masterworks by Francisco Goya and Robert Havell s prints for John James Audubon s Birds of America. Italian artist Francesco Citterio has harnessed the technique expertly for this sweeping bird s-eye-view of Lake Como. The panorama is taken from a height above the town of Bellagio. The viewer gazes north upon a landscape of incredible beauty, the same landscape that still delights visitors today. Slightly left of center on the opposite shore we see the 18th century Villa Carlotta and its famous botanical gardens, situated in the town of Tremezzo. Further to the left lies the historic Villa del Balbianello, which overlooks the lake from the tip of the small wooded peninsula of Dosso d Avedo. Moving back to the middle of the panorama, slightly right of center is the town of Bellagio itself. Bellagio sits at the end of a promontory that divides Lake Como in two. This strategic placement has attracted human settlement from at least the Paleolithic Period, and ensured the town s continuing importance over time. To the northeast on the opposite shore is the town of Varenna, which was founded by local fishermen in the 8th century. Beyond Varenna the eye is transported further north, with the Alps emerging in the far distance. It is in the juxtaposition and interplay between lake, towering mountains, and sky that the artist s talent is on full display.

Bel panorama del Bacino di San Marco, con presenti numerosissime imbarcazioni, tra cui spicca uno dei primi battelli a vapore attivi nella Laguna di Venezia. Gariboldi, che disegnò questo foglio per l'incisore Citterio, fu un buon pittore Milanese, celebrato soprattutto per i suoi notevoli paesaggi. Foglio non comune. La trasposizione su lastra spetta a Francesco Citterio, artista italiano attivo a Milano nella prima metà del secolo XIX , specializzato in incisioni vedutistiche. Il disegno è opera di Marco Nicolosino, disegnatore e litografo piemontese. Veduta prospettica della piazza Vittorio Emanuele, realizzata su disegno dell'architetto Frizzi, il quale assecondando, nei palazzi tutti a portici, il rapido declivio della piazza, seppe dissimulare artificiosamente, con avancorpi e terrazzi, la discontinuità delle orizzontali architettoniche. La piazza, ora chiamata Vittorio Veneto, venne aperta nel 1825. Animazione di personaggi sulla piazza e sul ponte Vittorio Emanuele, detto ponte in pietra, che immette alla piazza Gran Madre di Dio. Tavola tratta da raccolta di vedute dei dintorni di Torino, unita a "suite" di vedute della città; opera di notevole raffinatezza tecnica ed interesse vedutistico di chiese e residenze sabaude. Esemplare in buono stato conservativo; raro foglio non menzionato nei riferimenti bibliografici (Peyrot) 0.
