This book is Very Good condition for their age, with straight spines, sharp corners, firm spine ends and discoloured boards. John Wrigglesworth 1856-19031 was a cotton dyer's labourer from Greetland near Halifax who published under his own name and under this pseudonym Hubert Cloudsley2. Wrigglesworth was a member of the Calder Valley Poets3. Abigail Clare Sage in her PhD thesis on aspiring writers notes that, "John Wrigglesworth submitted a novel to Macmillan in 1891, but at other points published poetry (on general topics and 'private interests, such as the marriages and deaths of friends') and a book of essays 'on such subjects as the Rights and Wrongs of Women', which he sent to William Gladstone, and which elicited a letter of praise back."4 Which latter is this this volume.
