Hardcover. Etat : Good. Dated 1705 OR 1707? Original Leather binding very scruffy with worn down corners and scratches but holding firm and feels nice and smooth. Darkened page edges. Front paste down end paper has marks where someone has tried out a recalcitrant quill pen several times. Front Free end paper missing as is Title page, a photocopy of a similar one is included, and the text is identical to the text of that copy. The subjects starting with Pain, Revenge and Authors, Power, Infancy and Youth , Riches and Poverty, Whoredom, Usury, An Apostle and finally, Solitude. The front of the preface has another ink stain but the rest of the text is free of marks and unfoxed. foxing. Rear endpaper has further attempts with a faulty quill pen, and then in clear fine italic hand: "This together with the authors other works, prove him to be a person of extraordinary parts and learning.".

Text block solid with slight internal browning, minimal foxing to end and title pages, leather spine with raised bands (covered with crude tape repair), rear board is worn calf, front board is in 19th century brown cloth (an amateur but pratical repair in the past which has helped to conserve the text block , tape strip down spine and along gutter to attach. A fair to good copy of this scarce collection of 18th century sermons. A good canidate for restoration/recasing, 8vo, 412pp. Size: 8vo. Book.
