Hardcover. Etat : Fair. No Jacket. 1st Edition. First edition 1793. Engraved plates and a hand coloured map throughout. Bound in at the end and properly mount on sheets to match the size of the main book is a copy of Norden's Description of Hartfordshire, with a map. It is signed by John Boys and has a watercolour of his coat of arms and a watercolour of the Abbey. On a vellum document. 1803. A note in the front of the books says that the book was bought at a sale in 1817. The book has Baskerfield, Redbourn, written on the verso of the front free endpaper. The book has pencil notes in some places and has some extra illustration mounted throughout. The books lacks the rear cover which may have had the last pages of the Amwell poem attached to it. Front cover is detached. The spine and front cover is a near contemporary full leather binding, the spine has raised bands and gilt decorations in the compartments. Spine still attached. Only a fair copy externally. Contents generally nice and clean. A unique and fascinating extra illustrated copy with an interesting ownership.
