Calf. Etat : Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. 1790 edition. Text is in French. Size 12mo, 6.75" tall. Pagination; xxiv then parts 1 and 2 are 223 pages, part 3 86 pages and part 4 104 pages. Brown calf binding with gilt compartment lines and vignettes to the spine with gilt titles on burgundy morocco label. Condition good minus, the calf is rubbed and worn at the corners, edges and hinges, 1 inch of the backstrip is missing from the top of the spine and the calf is starting to come away for an inch at the bottom edge, internally the pages are a little toned and dust darkened, there are 2 previous owners' names, one on the title page is M. B. D'angreville and is not dated. One on the verso of the title page is either Pelombardy or Delombardy and is dated 1847. Part 3 of the book contains a fold out chart with engravings of the Coats of Arms of the different Bataillons (batallions) for each district and the names of their Commandant (commanding officer) and Aide Major (assistant major). The chart is a bit rubbed at the folds with 2 small tears without loss, the page is a little browned at the edges otherwise clean, the fine printing still sharp. Full title reads: Almanach National, Pour L'Annee 1790, Contenant, 1. Les epoques des Etats Generaux anciens; la liste des Membres de l'Assemblee nationale; le journal de ses travaux depius le 27 Mai; les arretes & decrets qui en font emanes. 2. A significant piece of Kuwaiti history, and symbol of the modern Kuwaiti state, "Issued at the Siif Palace on the 14th of Jumada al-Thani, 1382, corresponding to the 11th of November, 1962" (p35). Original green leatherette gilt-titled with State of Kuwait emblem to the front 18x25cm. Printed by the Kuwait Government Press. 35, (1)pp English text including b/w frontis photo portrait of the Amir. Covers fine, interiors fine except for 5 round Kuwaiti stickers applied to the blank ffep possibly relating to its tourism industry. In June 1961, upon achieving independence and in the face of the Iraqi threat, the Amir announced he would establish a Constitution. In July Kuwait was admitted to the Arab League, which sent troops to replace the outgoing British presence. In December, elections were held for a Constituent Assembly, which drafted the Constitution. The Amir signed this into law on 11 November 1962. Elections to the first National Assembly followed on 23 Jan 1963, and on 14 May Kuwait was admitted to the UN (previous efforts in 1962 had been vetoed by the USSR). The Iraqi threat receded with Qassim's death in Feb, and on 4 October Iraq formally recognised Kuwait. With 183 Articles arranged in 5 Parts, this covers the State and System of Government; Fundamental Constituents of the Kuwaiti Society; Public Rights and Duties; Powers (general provisions, Head of State, Legislative, Executive, Judicial); and General and Transitional Provisions.

Were he not leaving for the country, he would have presented in person 'Mr. Colt, citoyen des Etats-Unis, inventeur d'un ingénieux système d'armes à feu à plusieurs coups'. He and his 'cousin Murat [Joachim-Napoléon Murat (1767-1815)]' will be obliged if Colt can be admitted 'aux expériences du [sic] tir des carabines à tige des chapeurs à pied, quand elles auront lieu'. His colleague, 'le capitaine Tamissier, instructeur du tir à Vincennes', can brief him if necessary. It is his 'désir de faire admirer à un honorable et cordial étranger nos perfectionnemens en matière d'armes portatives'.
