This book is the first Canadian edition. Cozzens was a lawyer and an United States district judge for Arizona. This is his best known and most important of his books. The following is tak…en from the title page of the book and summarizes quite well the contents "The Marvellous Country; or Three Years in Arizona and New Mexico, The Apaches' home. Comprising A description of this wonderful country, its immense mineral wealth, its magnificent mountain scenery, the ruins of ancient towns and cities found therein, with a complete history of the Apache Tribe, and a description of the author's guide, Cochise, the Great Apache War Chief. This whole interspersed with Strange Events and Adventures. Illustrated by upwards of one hundred engravings". This book, 532 pages, is bound in brown cloth with gold lettering and sketches on the front cover and spine. The front and back covers also have black elaborate designs. This is a very good copy, sound and square. The faults include wear on the binding and light staining. There is some foxing and stains in the book, including on the map showing his travel routes in the region. A very acceptable copy of an important book on the Apaches and the American Southwest.
