Ajouter au panierPaperback. Etat : new. Paperback. National Animal, Derek Websters second book of poetry, inhabits a wider public space than his acclaimed debut Mockingbird. In poems that extend beyond the biographical toward the political, Websters quiet, sharp-eyed narrator a man tripping / my way forward, trying to lead my own life watches history being erased in favour of more socially palatable ideas and comforting self-portraits. Uncompromising and substantial, National Animal explores our civic moment where ""birds sing oblivion / estranged from all things,"" and meditates, in a final image-rich sequence, on our place in a science-based cosmos. Ajouter au panierPaperback. Etat : new. Paperback. We all have times when we feel trapped by life. A world of dysfunction seems to hem us in on every side as our hearts yearn for horizons that seem just beyond our grasp. We search for pathways forward we just cant seem to find. But, as Derek Webster demonstrates, God wants to lead us to health. How do we do that? Viewed through the lens of the familiar Old Testament Bible story of Joseph, Your Mess, God's Masterpiece shows us a way to journey from trapped to triumphant living. This book will help you move from the mess youre stuck in, to become the masterpiece God longs for you to be. "Viewed through the lens of the story of Joseph, this book offers advice and examples how God can use dysfunction to give us opportunities for health, and calm to our chaos"-- Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Ajouter au panierPaperback. Etat : Good. Minor shelf wear, rear cover has creasing to the bottom corner, sticker remnant to the top front cover, binding tight, pages have underlining and bracketing in ink. Bill Wilber is internationally renowned as a clarinetist, saxophonist and arranger who has won acclaim - and the coveted Grammy Award for his work on Coppola's The Cotton Club. Music Was Not Enough tells of Wilber's early fame as a bandleader and protege of his late father Sidney Bechet. From leading his own band in the 1940s, Wilber went on to Europe with Mezz Mezzrow's all star band. He later became involved with the Six, the bands of Bobby Hackett and Eddie Condon, and then came to prominence with the World' Greatest Jazz Band, Sorano Summit and the Bechet Legacy. Wilber's account of his studies with Bechet and other early jazzmen, his attempt to survive as a musician during the 1950s and 196-s and his subsequent return to fame make this book an important contribution to jazz history.
