First published in monthly parts from 1855 to 1857, Little Dorrit draws strongly upon Dickens's childhood experience of his father's imprisonment for debt in the Marshalsea. Following Amy Dorrit from the debtors' prison into sudden wealth, the novel combines an intimate family story with one of Dickens's sharpest attacks on Victorian bureaucracy, social pretension, financial speculation, and institutional failure. Contents exceptionally clean and unmarked, with only occasional foxing and light toning. Frontispieces and plates present. Bindings remain sound and firm. Calf and marbled boards moderately rubbed and scuffed, with chipping and wear at the spine ends and wear to the corners. Overall Good, with contents in notably better condition than the bindings.
