Staple-bound paper covers; front cover illustrated with streetscape image of Old Town, Alexandria, Virginia; some abrasions along the spine with a bump at the head, crease to bottom corner of front cover, light soiling. Foreword by Victor L. Summers. Dickman's poetry appears mostly upon rectos with Spandorf's b/w sketches and single color illustration placed on opposing versos. Well-known for her watercolor paintings and pencil drawings of Washington, DC area street scenes, Austrian emigre Lily Gabriella Spandorf (1915-2000) was a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and resided in the District of Columbia from 1960 onward. Spandorf exhibited at the Smithsonian Institution as well as the White House and designed the 1963 Christmas postage stamp for the US Post Office. Her work appears in at least three books (including this one). The content and quality of her paintings are reminiscent of Elizabeth O'Neill Verner's streetscapes of Charleston, South Carolina. A very good copy of a hard-to-find book. Description copyright David Hallinan, Bookseller.
