Inscription in pencil on second free endpaper, noting that this book was…purchased in 1897 at the dedication of the Grant Memorial in New York City. A bright example. This work was followed by three other volumes from Charles Coffin, including: Marching to Victory (1888), Redeeming the Republic (1889), and Freedom Triumphant (1890). The first edition of Drum-Beat was published in 1887 by Harper & Brothers. The second edition of Drum-Beat of the Nation by Charles Carleton Coffin, published in 1888. (illustrateur).
