The Notes from a Diary 1896-1901 are misbound, Volume I is bound as volume II and vice versa. From the library of Evelyn Baring, the Earl Of Cromer. With his bookplate to the front pastedown of all volumes. Evelyn Baring, 1st Earl of Cromer was a British statesman, diplomat and colonial administrator. He was the British controller-general in Egypt during 1879 which was part of the international control which oversaw Egyptian finances after the 1876 Egyptian bankruptcy. M E Grant Duff, the author of these diaries was a Scottish politician, administrator and author. He was the Under-Secretary of State for India from 1868-74 and Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies from 1880-81. In half calf bindings with cloth covered boards. Externally, smart with rubbing to the extremities, joints and spines. Vol I of 1889-91 is particularly rubbed to spine. Front hinge to volume II of 1889-1891 is slightly strained but firm. Small loss to head of spine of volume III (volume I of 1873-81). Head and tail of spine to volume I of 1892-95 is particularly rubbed at front joint. Front hinge to volume II of 1896-1901 is slightly strained but firm. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned to edges with the odd spot throughout. Very Good. book.
