Prints four poems by Seamus Heaney, including "Mid-Term Break" and "For the Commander of the 'Eliza'" (both first appearing in Heaney's rare first book *Eleven Poems*, 1965), "The Early Purges" (first appears, along with the two prior poems, in *Death of a Naturalist*, 1966), and "The Tollund Man" (first appears in *Wintering Out*, 1972). Also prints poems by W.H. Auden, John Betjeman, Thom Gunn, Ted Hughes, Philip Larkin, Christopher Logue, Wole Soyinka, Elizabeth Jennings, and others. Advance Review Copy with publisher's slip. The ink owner name of Irish scholar and friend of Montague's, Colin L. McElvie, on the first page. McElvie wrote a letter to the *Irish Times* to defended Montague's editing after reading its unfavorable review of this book. Laid in is an Autograph Letter Signed by Montague on University College, Cork letterhead, dated May 3 1976, in which he thanks McElvie for his published letter and discussed other reviews of his books. Also laid in are various newspaper clipping about this book, an anthology of Irish verse which features a 19-page essay ("In the Irish Grain") by Montague, four poems by Seamus Heaney and numerous contributions of ancient and modern poets, including Jonathan Swift, Owen Roe O'Sullivan, Thomas Moore, W. B. Yeats, James Stephens, Padraic Colum, Samuel Beckett, Derek Mahon, Eavan Boland, and others. An interesting association copy.

An anthology of Irish verse which features a 19-page essay ("In the Irish Grain") by Montague, four poems by Seamus Heaney and numerous contributions of ancient and modern poets, including Jonathan Swift, Owen Roe O'Sullivan, Thomas Moore, W. B. Yeats, James Stephens, Padraic Colum, Samuel Beckett, Derek Mahon, and Eavan Boland, among many others.

Prints contributions by Samuel Beckett ("Song"), Seamus Heaney ("Fosterling"), Thomas Kinsella, Louis le Brocquy, Ted Hughes, Robert Duncan, Denise Levertov, Derek Mahon, Seamus Deane, Benedict Kiely, Thom Gunn, Robert Bly, Francis Stuart, Peter Fallon, and others, as well as "The Books of John Montague, 1958-1988: A Descriptive Checklist." Both volumes are housed in a fine custom forest green clamshell case with the spine titling and Seamus Heaney's facsimile signature on the cover gilt.
