Chapters on his time in Alaska (as a cryptographer in WWII), post-war Manhattan, Paris and Rome for three decades (Paris Review, Botteghe Oscure, Fellini films), and back in Mobile. 8vo, beige and brown paper over boards, scant shelf wear, some soil to edges. Unclipped dust jacket has a small white paint spot on spine and light shelf wear. Names of former owners, the author's friends Ann and Warner Berthoff. written on front free end paper, her marginalia on approximately ten pages in the chapter on post-war New York City and notes on the rear free end paper (mostly her own recollections, or comparisons with other versions told her by EW, of scenes and people mentioned). Affixed to the front pastedown are small two b&w photos of her friend Eugene Walter behind the wheel of a 1927 Bugatti Type 44X auto, inscribed verso with obscure or invented literary citations, one of them identifying himself as Dr. W. (for Willoughby).
