First printing of author's second book, signed on half-title page.Feikema, Feike [Fred Manfred] : Boy Almighty. St. Paul : The Itasca Press, 1945. First edition/First impression. Signed by Feikema/Manfred on half-title page. Small octavo (8vo), 7.875"/19.8cm. Bound in publisher's dusty heather green cloth, red and blue ornamentation and lettering to spine. Matte color/b&w photographic dust jacket. Plain white endpapers. [x], xi-xii, [2], 3-338, [339-40] blank. Condition notes: A very good first printing of author's second novel (after the Dust-Bowl themed "The Golden Bowl", which was awarded an American Academy of Arts and Letters Fiction grant); Feikema was soon to publish under the more recognized name of Frederick Manfred. Binding is solid and square, with a couple of bumped corners. Edges show general soiling and light foxing, with a minor stain to head fore-corner. Mylar-sheathed dust jacket is merely acceptable, with several chunks missing, including front flap head, where price would have been marked; fold on rear spine nearly worn through. Former owner's name, and modest gift inscription, to ffep; author signature to half-title page; else unmarked. A nice collectible early Manfred, the Iowan who lived and worked in Minnesota for many years - including at Blue Mounds State Park in Rock County, in the southwest corner of the state, where his home became part of the park. We personally inspect every book we offer.
