Coursy of Mitchell S.D., discussing the scarcity of "The Bad Lands Cowboy", the Medora newspaper that was published when he was ranching with Roosevelt in the 1880s. The office was burned and Ferris is unaware of any copies. He had offered $5.00 for any copy the previous year without success. Sylvan Ferris was TR's foreman on his ranch in the Badlands of North Dakota. The devastating winter of 1886-87, cost TR dearly, losses totaled about sixty percent of his cattle. In 1890, Roosevelt turned the ranch entirely over to his foreman Sylvan Ferris and in 1898 sold Ferris the ranch and buildings. A rare autographed note with content dealing with the Roosevelt period in the West. An extraordinary find.
