Among his notable works are A History of Our Own Times, which chronicles the events of Victorian Britain, and The Dictator, a political novel that explores issues of power and governance. McCarthy also wrote several biographies, including those of prominent figures such as Sir Robert Peel and Pope Leo XIII.
