Ajouter au panierPaperback. Etat : Near Fine. 1st. 56 pages, illustrations (some colour); 29 cm. Catalogue of an exhibition held at the Mendel Art Gallery, February 8 to March 17, 1985 and at six other locations through March 29, 1986. Near fine. Firm binding, clean inside copy. Wraps lightly rubbed. *** One of the major American artists of the 1980s. Originating in a small museum in Saskatoon, Canada, this trendy exhibition of Fischl's figurative paintings, redolent with sexual and Freudian undertones, travelled to half-a-dozen venues, including the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, where a few extra works were added (the Checklist of additional paintings at the Whitney is printed on the inside back cover). Kuspit's essay is entitled "Voyeurism, American-Style: Eric Fischl's Vision of the Perverse." Although he was often pegged as a "Neo-Expressionist" in the eighties, Fischl's classic images blend realism and surrealism (think Edward Hopper on the psychoanalyst's couch). The paintings usually feature nudes and are often frankly sexual in subject matter; gender stereotyping is strong; there are intimations of incest and abuse. Critics in the eighties, feminists among them, had a field day with Fischl's provovative imagery. Profusely illustrated, with several colour plates. Size: 4to. Collectible.

Ferguson and Lynne Warren. In the interview, Eric Fischl discusses: how his work is mostly fictional and not autobiographical; his work process; his work Bad Boy; his use of contemporary objects to make his figure paintings modern; his interest in the effects produced by putting a TV in a painting; how the objects that we live with assume identities; why he never works from models; audience interaction with his paintings; his work Daddy's Girl; and how the relationship between the viewer and his works relates to the relationship between the Greeks and their gods. Video includes shots of his works Bayonne, 1985; Bad Boy, 1981; Time for Bed, 1980; A Funeral, 1980; A Woman Possessed, 1981; Pizza Eater, 1982; New House, 1982; Untitled (Two Women in Bedroom), 1982; Master Bedroom, 1983; Daddy's Girl, 1984; and A Visit to/A Visit From/The Island, 1983.
