Ajouter au panierFirst Edition. [Tribute] FIRST EDITION, the limited hardcover issue, ASSOCIATION COPY. Octavo (24 x 16cm), pp.10 [2]. Publisher's black cloth with printed title label to upper. This copy coming from the library of Fleming's close friend Denis Hamilton with a bookplate to that effect produced by bibliographer Jon Gilbert who purc…hased some of his collection at auction. The author, William Plomer, was a close friend of Fleming, his trusted Editor-in-chief, the dedicatee of the novel Goldfinger, and the very first reader of the James Bond debut 'Casino Royale'. An important association; Sir Charles Denis 'C.D.' Hamilton (1918-88), decorated veteran of the second world war was 'an outstanding natural newspaperman', a close friend of Ian Fleming and a fellow board member at the Kemsley News Group; Fleming was employed as Foreign Manager and Hamilton was the editor-in-chief of their flagship Sunday Times, and later chairman of the organisation. As a columnist, much of Fleming's journalism was published in Hamilton's Sunday Times; the 1962 inaugural issue of the ST Magazine led with the James Bond novella The Living Daylights, and Hamilton championed Fleming's Thrilling Cities travel articles, being the dedicatee of the book-form edition. Hamilton received a signed first edition of every possible Bond novel ('Golden Gun' and 'Octopussy' being posthumous); his collection was sold in London in 2012. Gilbert. Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Very good. No jacket. First edition. First edition, hardback issue. [One of c.50 copies]. 8vo. Original dark blue cloth with printed title label to upper cover. William Plomer, a writer, editor and poet, became a close companion of Ian Fleming after meeting him in 1929. A wartime colleague and later a publisher…'s reader at Jonathan Cape, Plomer played a crucial role in getting Casino Royale published and acted as an unofficial editor for Fleming's Bond novels. Goldfinger is dedicated "To my gentle reader William Plomer." Ann Fleming noted that Plomer was one of the few people around whom Ian could truly relax. Plomer also read a tribute at Fleming's funeral. A little rubbed at head of spine, overall very good. Book.
