The male recipient is unnamed. He is 'quite unfit to go up to London to-day', 'owing to the fatigue I underwent yesterday travelling a long distance into Northamptonshire to see a patient'. He is ' vexed at being obliged to send this apology', but it is unavoidable, and he craves the recipient's indulgence, and asks him to 'postpone our conversation until tomorrow or on any other day quite convenient to yourself'. The author of this letter is not to be confused with his son L. Forbes Winslow (1844-1913), also a psychiatrist, as well as cricketer, remembered for his involvement in the Jack the Ripper case.
