A collection of historical wood-block engravings the subjects of which were found within 30 miles of Salem, and record the history of the region. A limited edition book (250 copies) was produced in the same year, using the engravings, and these and the ones in the book are the same size. The images have Fowler's initials in the prints. Softcover wraps, 11x15 inches, all printed on heavy paper. Very good condition.

Illustrated with 20 plates, each featuring a woodcut. depicting landmarks and relics of early Western settlement. Slight offsetting to front and rear endpapers from dust jacket flaps. In the dust jacket. Both book and dust jacket quite fresh. Fowler created the works in her pursuit of an MFA at Willamette University. Very much a Frank McCaffrey production. McCaffrey's book design is usually marked by either a lingering, perhaps outdated, element of Victoriana, using colored paper and floral effect to a nostalgic fault, or an enthusiastic, and often accomplished, embrace of streamline sans-serif design. This volume is a combination of both. A superb copy with no detracting qualities whatsoever to either book or dust jacket. Dust jacket is now housed in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
