Gitta Fürt (née Margit Fürst, 1889-?)) was married to the artist Armand Schönberger (1885-1974) in 1916 and already a budding poet. She was his muse and appears in several of his paintings. This work is a collaboration employing both of their talents. Schönberger s engravings are powerful, stark. Fürt s poetry is that of an innocent overwhelmed by urban neuroticism, speed and vacuity. Schönberger was moving out of a cubo-futurist period and incorporated more expressionist elements before settling into a quieter, more sumptuous mode by 1930. A compelling first collection. Two North American library holdings.
