Ex-institutional library, with de-accesison stamps to the three edges, and the rmains of a torn out bookplate to the half title page (as well as another bookplate present on the front paste-down), else clean and sound. In a very good dust jacket with mild rubbing. A presentation copy, SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Durante on the front free endpaper: To Laurence, this is a pleasure, Jimmy Durante." The book is also signed below by Durante's longtime showbiz partner Eddie Jackson (signing as "Ed" or maybe "Edi," as he often did), and the book's author Gene Fowler. Uncommon signed by these three related figures. Laid in are two photographs, one of which depicts Durante and friends at the El Mirador Hotel in Palm Springs in 1932 (per the ink handwriting to recto and verso). The other is an amateurishly trimmed photo of Durante.

I loveÕs ya, Jimmy Durante.Ó JimmyÊDurante (1893Ð1980), the legendary American comedian, actor, singer, vaudevillian, and pianist whose distinctive gravely speech, Lower East Side accent, comic language-butchery, jazz-influenced songs, and prominent nose helped make him one of America's most familiar and popular personalities of the 1920s through the 1970s and who often referred to his nose as the schnozzola (Italianization of the American Yiddish slang word schnoz, meaning "big nose"), making the word became his nickname. Joseph Santley (1890Ð1971), the noted American actor, singer, dancer, writer, director, and producer of musical theatrical plays motion pictures and television shows who staged or produced network television shows starring Jimmy Durante, Patti Page, Mickey Rooney and Pat Boone among others and directed more than 50 motion pictures including the Marx Brothers The Cocoanuts (1929) and the 1940 classic Melody Ranch with Gene Autry authored by Gene Fowler (1890Ð1960), the noted American journalist, author, screenwriter, and dramatist. Bound in the publisher's red and yellow cloth covered boards. Contents lightly toning. The bottom edge of the pages are lightly warped. Top edge of boards lightly bumped and the bottom edge of the boards slightly stained.ÊIn the dust jacket, which is price-clipped and lightly rubbed and worn, with a few small chips and a small tape reinforcement to the verso.
