An American artist who started his career painting signs and movie sets. Limited edition, copy 49 of 250 signed by Pop Hart and Holger Cahill, and with an original lithograph depicting a cock fight, signed by Hart entitled "The Champion, Mexico, 1928." Nicks to backstrip extremities. Orig. brown boards, backstrip and cover lettering in silver. Very good.

First edition of this delightful and early Peter Lukes pop-up featuring Kenny the Kangaroo taking a tour through Animalia, with sliding pop-ups of elephants, tigers, macaws, giraffes, snkes, monkeys, crocodiles, rhinos hippos & cheetahs. Lukes (1923-1976) began as a set designer for Barandov Film Studios, but ran afoul of the Czech Communist Party in 1948, and so eventually became a children's book illustrator winning an Artia house contest in 1960, followed by his successful pop-up series.

Contemporary gray-green boards, stamped in gilt & black on front cover, black cloth spine (minor bumping to corners, shelfwear, light uniform toning), still VG copy, w/ all models in excellent working condition. First edition, thus, of this installment of Georg's inventive and technically accurate moveable model atlases, which were instructional pieces that were available separately from the technical volumes. This one features seven pop-up models with elaborate overlays, including a 1920 touring car, green, with both side and top elevations, revealing all of the internal workings, the Zwilling four-cylinder steam engine which was a narrow gauge locomotive based on the three-truck Shay design; as well as models of a DC turbo dynamo, a steam electric generator, a heavy duty Deutz AG gas engine, and more.

(Die besagten 4 s/w-Fotos anbei. Diese Ausstellung war eine seiner wichtigsten zeitgenössischer Kunst.).

The plate was created with drypoint and sandpaper and then printed with blended colored inks. Image: 17.5 x 29.8 cm / 6.9 x 11.7 in. Paper: 26.8 x 35.5 cm / 10.5 x 14 in. Signed in light pencil just below the image on the right, with a written number, "P H 28," at the extreme lower margin of the same scan; "Jersey Hills" written on the extreme lower left margin. Fresh image, but a previous framing job left a light scar on the right edge of the paper where a mat must have overlapped about a quarter inch.
