Most of the letters were written by her grandmother, Gertrud, to her son Heini, who travelled with a Kindertransport from Germany to Sweden in July 1939. An additional fourteen letters were from Heini's friend Walter Mayer. Monica translated these letters and compiled them into two books, My Heartchild and Dear Heini.My Heartchild is a selection of Gertrud's letters, written every second day.
