Hardcover. Etat : Near Fine condition. Very Good dust jacket. First Printing of the First Edition. New York: Vantage Press, 1986. INSCRIBED / SIGNED by the AUTHOR, directly on the front free endpaper Near Fine condition in a bright and shiny Very Good dust jacket (one short half-inch closed tear and one tiny chip). NOT price cli…pped ($18.95). NOT a remainder. Pages are clean and unmarked. 1986. First printing with "First Edition" so stated on the copyright page. Full color frontispiece. Bound in the original brown cloth, stamped in bright gold on the spine. From the dust jacket: "Compelling and informative, this novel is the story of a cattle ranch and its people in the Nevada wilderness long before the glitter of the state's gaming era. It focuses on the loves and hates, the triumphs and tragedies, of the Norman family from covered-wagon days to the Great Depression of the present [i.e. 20th] century. The patriarch of this family is Arthur Norman, a giant of a man whose vision of life helped tame a violent and lawless frontier. His love for his family and friends, his lands, his cattle and his horses was so strong that the shadow of his life hovered over his descendants in a lasting legacy. The story covers the gamut of human passions as the characters contend with each other, their harsh environment, and the historical events that brought the Old West into the mainstream of an evolving American culture. The discovery of gold in California, the emigrants, Indian disturbances, cattle drives, the Civil War, the first railroad, World War I, the Great Depression -- these are all here, woven into the lives of a family that developed a cattle kingdom where Indians and white men lived in peaceful coexistence despite the prejudices of their time. For those with a fascination for the history of the Old West or anyone who enjoys adventure and romance, THE TREBLE V: THE LEGACY OF A CATTLE BARON OF THE OLD WEST is a thrilling book.". Bound in the original silver-stamped black boards. Complete with pictorial dust jacket. From the dust jacket: "First published in 1995, Bus Ride to Justice, the best-selling autobiography by acclaimed civil rights attorney Fred D. Gray, appears now in a newly revised edition that updates Gray's remarkable career of destroying everything segregated that I could find. Of particular interest will be the details Gray reveals for the first time about Rosa Parks's 1955 arrest. Gray was the young lawyer for Parks and also Martin Luther King Jr. and the Montgomery Improvement Association, which organized the 382-day Montgomery Bus Boycott after Parks's arrest. As the last survivor of that inner circle, Gray speaks about the strategic reasons Parks was presented as a demure, random victim of Jim Crow policies when in reality she was a committed, strong-willed activist who was willing to be arrested so there could be a test case to challenge segregation laws. Gray's remarkable career also includes landmark civil rights cases in voting rights, education, housing, employment, law enforcement, jury selection, and more. He is widely considered one of the most successful civil rights attorneys of the twentieth century and his cases are studied in law schools around the world. In addition he was an ordained Church of Christ minister and was one of the first blacks elected to the Alabama legislature in the modern era. Initially denied entrance to Alabamas segregated law school, he eventually became the first black president of the Alabama bar association. This volume also includes new photographs not found in the previous edition.". SIGNED by the AUTHOR (his signature only). Revised edition. Hardcover. Very Good condition/Very Good dust jacket.
