Soft cover. Etat : New. Between 1972 and 1977, Gijsbert Hanekroot photographed the American rock musician Lou Reed (1942-2013) on seven occasions in Amsterdam, during concerts and interviews. An extensive selection of these impressive images can be seen in the beautiful photo book Lou Reed in Amsterdam 1972 - 1977. Sebastiaan Vos provides an informative reference to the early years of Lou Reed's solo career and offers an excellently documented description of Hanekroot's photographs of Reed. In 1972, Lou Reed released his first solo album after leaving the legendary rock band The Velvet Underground two years earlier. He also went on tour. Reed has a contrasting image of sex, drugs & rock 'n' roll, and doesn't hesitate to fool his audience and insult journalists. In these early years, Reed's solo career has already become erratic and reckless but that doesn't affect his rising popularity. In the mid-seventies, he seemed to find his true form on stage and the rock 'n' roll animal disappears from view to make way for a more 'ordinary' Reed. Musically and lyrically, Reed is a poet. He shows, however, that he is also one of the greatest artists in rock music. From the photographs Gijsbert Hanekroot took of Lou Reed in Amsterdam during concerts and interviews an extensive selection is now published in a beautiful photo book. Sebastiaan Vos provides excellently documented descriptions of Hanekroot's photographs of Reed. Gijsbert Hanekroot (illustrateur).…

Soft cover. Etat : New. Gijsbert Hanekroot (Brussels, 1945) started his career as a professional photographer in 1969. This turned out to be the perfect time to capture the explosion of the rock scene in the 70s, which resulted in many iconic photographs. This book contains his most striking photographs of David Bowie, and includes a number of gems that have not been published before. Sebastiaan Vos, (Middelstum, 1973) is a publicist and archivist, has been a Bowie fan all his life. His fascination with David Bowie has shaped a large part of his life. Despite his passion for one of the greatest artists in present-day music, he was able to write this informative biography from a detached point of view. Gijsbert Hanekroot (illustrateur).…

Soft cover. Etat : New. 1976 - The story of a rock photographer is a richly illustrated book about the life and work of Gijsbert Hanekroot. Written by Sidney Brandeis, the book contains over 200 photographs and profiles one of the most important pop photographers of the 1970s. In the early 1970s, Hanekroot was the first Dutch photographer to focus entirely on rock music. As a photographer for the music magazine OOR, he worked at the heart of the international pop scene. The book centres on 1976, featuring iconic images of artists including David Bowie, ABBA, Patti Smith, Paul McCartney and Bob Marley. In addition to the photography, the book provides a clear picture of how the music industry worked at the time and how Hanekroot's photos found their way onto album covers for artists including The Rolling Stones and Neil Young. At the height of his career, he stopped working in the early 1980s, after which his archive remained unseen for years. It was only decades later that it was rediscovered and exhibited worldwide to great acclaim. With 128 pages and over 200 photographs, 1976 - The story of a rock photographer is both a visual document of its time and a personal story. …
