Jahrhunderts eine beachtliche Rolle im städtebaulichen und gesellschaftlichen Diskurs. Es war Projektionsfläche für eine Vielzahl von Gemeinschaftsentwürfen. Die Studie stellt die wechselvolle Geschichte dieses Bautypus vor einem breiten historischen Hintergrund dar. Die Architektur der Bauten wird im Kontext der architektonischen Strömungen der Moderne exemplarisch analysiert. Ein über 300 Einträge umfassender Katalog rekonstruiert den Bestand der zwischen 1890 bis 1933 in Deutschland existierenden Volkshäuser anhand von umfangreichem Quellenmaterial.
