This highly collectible set is from Goupil and Company's premium luxury run, featuring exquisite typography, hand-pres…s style formatting, and highly detailed portrait plates complete with their original platemarks. The text pages are printed on heavy, premium paper stock with uncut, deckled edges. This assertion is justified by the publisher's letterpress limitation page in Volume I, explicitly stating that only fifty total copies of this specific edition were printed, with this set hand-numbered as copy number XLVII (47). Printing: Limited Printing, copy number 47 of 50. Illustrator: Features art plates after John Trumbull and other historical artists, processed by Goupil and Co. Language: English Binding: Publisher's original half vellum with blue-green cloth boards. Features a bright gold-gilt stamped United States coat of arms on the front cover of both volumes, with gold-gilt lettering on the spines. Dust Jacket: No (as issued without dust jackets). The internal plates remain sharp with distinct platemarks, and the paper text pages are clean with expected age-toning along the uncut deckled edges. The exterior bindings are in good, structurally sound condition, but show visible cosmetic shelf wear. The vellum spines and corners have experienced significant environmental toning, surface soiling, and foxing over the last century, turning the vellum from its original creamy white to a mottled tan and brown color. The gold gilt on the spines remains legible but is somewhat muted. The blue-green cloth boards show light scuffing and faint water-spotting/fading near the edges. Both volumes remain firmly bound.
