The Vendidad is a collection of texts within the greater compendium of the Avesta. However, unlike the other texts of the Avesta, the Vendidad is an ecclesiastical code, not a liturgical manual. The name of the texts is a contraction of the Avestan language V"-Dav-D?ta, "Given Against the Daevas (Demons)", and as the name suggests, the Vendidad is an enumeration of various manifestations of evil spirits, and ways to confound them. According to the divisions of the Avesta as described in the Denkard, a 9th-century text, the Vendidad includes all of the 19th nask, which is then the only nask that has survived in its entirety. About the Author:-Friedrich Max Mller (1823 Ð1900) was a German-born philologist and Orientalist, who lived and studied in Britain for most of his life. He was one of the founders of the western academic disciplines of Indian studies and religious studies ('science of religion', German: Religionswissenschaft). Mller wrote both scholarly and popular works on the subject of Indology. The Sacred Books of the East, a 50-volume set of English translations, was prepared under his direction. James Darmesteter (1849 Ð1894) was a French author, orientalist, and antiquarian. He was born of Jewish parents at Chteau-Salins, in Lorraine. The family name had originated in their earlier home of Darmstadt. He was educated in Paris, where, under the guidance of Michel Bral and Abel Bergaigne, he imbibed a love for Oriental studies, to which for a time he entirely devoted himself. In 1875, he published a thesis on the mythology of the Avesta, in which he advocated that the Persian religion of Zoroastrianism had been influenced by Judaism (and not backwards as many scholars say). In 1885 he was appointed professor in the Collge de France, and was sent to India in 1886 on a mission to collect the popular songs of the Afghans, a translation of which, with a valuable essay on the Afghan language and literature. The Title 'The Sacred Books of the East (THE ZEND-AVESTA, PART-I: THE VENDIDAD) written/authored/edited by F. MAX MULLER, JAMES DARMESTETER', published in the year 2021. This part of the Avesta treats chiefly of the mythical and legendary lore of Zoroastrianism. For a satisfactory translation of these texts, the etymological and comparative method is generally considered as the best or as the only possible one, on account of the entire absence of any traditional interpretation. The Yasts says about the lord of armies and wide pastures, Mithra, the god of light that released the hebrews from Babylon. The prayers and atrubutes related to Mithra are the same of the hebrew god Yawe, except that Mitrha is not the "creator". Yawe seems to be a copy-evolution from Mithra, or a mix between Mithra and Mazda, made up in the same intolerance as seen in Akhenaton cult of Aton, in Ancient Egypt.
