Paperback. Etat : new. Paperback. "We Own the City" examines the ways in which urban dwellers--who used to be merely "clients" of development--are taking ownership of their neighborhoods. Bottom-up initiatives are cropping up around the world, but institutions, government offices and developers often find themselves uncertain how to collaborate with and empower these impassioned citizens and communities. Offering solutions to this disconnect, "We Own the City" analyzes this international trend through five case studies, focusing on Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Moscow, New York and Taipei, each of which discusses different dynamics and intensities of citizens' redevelopment processes. This volume delves into the complexities surrounding the role of today's city-makers and the potential and actual tensions between civil society and government, and it further provides new foundations for inclusive urban development plans which will set the standard for future public governments, housing authorities, architects, town planners and real-estate developers. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.…

Hardback. Etat : New. This book is a thorough documentation of tectonics in the Hong Kong construction industry. It looks at how buildings have been designed and built in a high-density city in a subtropical climate. Written in both Chinese and English, it covers almost all aspects of building materials and technology in Hong Kong with a succinct sequence that follows the construction process of a building project. The case studies in Chapter 3 brings together sixteen local projects, which embrace a wide range of building types, from single-story buildings to high-rise towers, from private development to public institutional construction, from office to residence, and provide invaluable information on the application of building materials and technology. While it is intended primarily for students in architecture, surveying, and construction, Building Materials and Technology in Hong Kong is an indispensable reference for professionals and practitioners who are dealing with building design and construction. Those with a general interest in building construction will also find this highly illustrated book an interesting and engaging read.…

Taschenbuch. Etat : Neu. Behandelde projecten: Amsterdam: I Can Change The World With My Two Hands, Cascoland, Noorderparkbar, Vrijburcht. Hong Kong: Lam Tin & Uppen Ngau Tau Kwok Estate, Fly the Fly Over Operation, The Community Project Workshop, Choi Yuen Village. New York: Garden of Eden, BRIC Arts - Media and UrbanGlass, New Lots Triangle Plaza, Manufacture New York. Moskou: Cyclification, DelaiSam, Mitino, Nagatino. Taipei: The Treasure Hill, Qing-Tien, Huaguang, Greenlife Roosvelt.…
