Soft cover. Etat : Near Fine. This is the 1980 Second Printing of "Retief at Large", a science fiction adventure novel by sci - fi master Keith Laumer. It was published originally by Ace Books. This is Ace Book 71501-X. The dramatic cover art was done by Bob Adragna. Laumer wrote quite a few stories featuring the interstellar diplomat and agent provocateur, James Retief. The following is an excerpt from the cover blurb: "The official accounts of Terra's efforts in the field of interstellar diplomacy during the 29th century are available for the dialing to anyone willing to pore through the records of the 'Corps Diplomatique Terestrienne', For those of sufficient discernment, however, it will be evident that the Corps' records, incredibly voluminous though they be, fail to tell the whole truth ? indeed, to some degree, must obscure it. Surely it had been guarded solely by the efforts of such persons as Ambassadors Magnan, Thunderstroke , and Grossblunder. Terra's Sphere of Influence would have crumpled instantly before the diplomatic assaults of the Groaci. That it did not demonstrates that other factors were at work. One such factor was a career diplomat named James Retief. Contained here are several accounts of his achievements, illustrating how a few able men were able to save the galaxy for Man." Soft cover. Etat : Good. 2nd Edition. WORLDS OF THE IMPERIUM by KEITH LAUMER. ACE M-165, New York (1966) From the cover blurb: "A parallel-time-tracks story with van Vogtian wheels-within-wheels ramifications. Brion Bayard, of our own continuum, is snatched into one in which there never was a United States, in which Northern Europe, Britain, the Western Hemisphere and Australia form one huge empire, in which Hermann Goering is a useful ally. He learns that there is a third continuum, in which nuclear war has nearly shattered civilization, leaving a North African dictatorship headed by --- himself ! The scheme: replace the bad Brion Bayard with the good one and stop the guerrilla raids on the Imperium. Naturally Brion falls in with this plan, and naturally things are not quite as simple as thy seem . This is well-done action, adventure and cloak-and-dagger stuff." - from a review by P. "The Glory Game" by by Science Fiction master Keith Laumer is a classic science fiction adventure situated centuries in the future and far out into the reaches of intergalactic space. The hero of this novel is faced with the harsh reality of intergalactic war.
