Hardback. Etat : New. This book is a celebration of the power of the smartphone camera combined with Thomas A. Kligerman's unique eye. Tom is a New York architect who adores travel and the different cultures of the world, recording vibrant details and evocative scenes on his device as he journeys from India to New Mexico, from Beaux-Arts monuments to rustic barns, from ocean to mountaintop. The images have been curated into dynamic pairs that spark a conversation about the world and the different ways of seeing it. They are accompanied by Tom's reflections, and those of his Instagram followers, in a series of captions, comments and mini essays. More inspiration from the digital world come in the form of QR codes, used throughout the book to transport readers from the printed page to sites in the online universe, in a magical mystery tour of stimulating experience. Readers will never know what to expect or what they will find. This book is a child of the pandemic, a time when people could only dream of traveling or relive past experiences, as Tom has done, from his camera roll. It rejoices in both the potential of new media and the physical pleasure given by a beautifully made and structured book, a new take on the notion of armchair travel - exuberant, witty and expert.…

Hardcover. Etat : Used - Acceptable. Named to the 2022 Architectural Digest AD100 listNamed to the 2022 Elle Decor A-List Elegantly luxurious presentation of the residential work of Thomas Kligerman, an architect renowned for skillful integration of contemporary flair into traditional designs. As a full career monograph, the book will feature iconic Kligerman houses built over the past twenty years and current projects that demonstrate the evolution of his architectural thinking. This will be a 'deep dive' into the design process, illustrated by sketches and renderings as well as finished photography. An introduction by Architectural Digest design editor Mitchell Owens will provide an overview of the trajectory while Kligerman's own essay will focus on his interest in developing a truly American style that reflects both the Puebloan style of the Southwest and the shingle style that has prevailed in along the East Coast since the late nineteenth century. Kligerman designs only single-family houses, and his clients have beautiful sites in the Hamptons and throughout New England with a few on the West Coast and in Texas. He is deeply steeped in the history of European and American domestic architecture and wonders whether there is (or can be) an American house paradigm. He grew up in Connecticut and New Mexico so the two strands that he draws on most art the solid adobe forms of Puebloan style and the lighter, more open shingle style. He also considers West Coast architects like Bernard Maybeck and English arts and crafts designers like Vosey and Lutyens. Rather than looking at single, specific precedents and adapting them for contemporary life, Kligerman tries to incorporate multiple strands to come up with something new 'to move the needle forward' as he says. Elegantly luxurious presentation of the residential work of Thomas Kligerman, an architect renowned for skillful integration of contemporary flair into traditional designs. Back end papers are cracking but intact. DJ is a little dirty. Very good reference copy.…
